In 2005, a small, private investment group acquired a portfolio of marinas and the Flagship Marina Management Company from a Goldman Sachs affiliate, under the new name, Flagship Marinas Acquisitions, LLC. All told, the investors took control of seven marinas nationwide, including Marina Bay in Boston, MA, Aqualand and Trade Winds Marinas in Georgia, Aqua Yacht Harbor in Mississippi, Walden and Emerald Point Marinas in Texas, and Jamestown Marina in Kentucky. The acquisition landed Flagship Marinas in the top three marina companies in the U.S., by size and total number of slips.
The managing partners have formidable experience in mixed-use development, including marinas, hotels, restaurants, retail and residential, with extensive involvement in the planning and construction of such landmarks as Boston’s Copley Place, the Beverly Hills Hotel, Pebble Beach Resort, the Peninsula Hotel and Watertower Place in Chicago, and the Time-Warner Building in New York City.
Flagship Marinas sees significant opportunity to meet the changing demands of the marketplace through the addition of new amenities that deliver complete recreational and lifestyle experiences. In addition to a commitment to service at the highest level, Flagship intends to offer a true sense of community at its marinas, and to increase the social excitement of customers’ boating experiences.
In the future, Flagship Marinas anticipates continued growth through optimization of amenities within its current portfolio, as well as through strategic acquisition of new properties across the country.
